Curated by Penang independent music label Uah Music Culture, this independent music series aims to showcase the city’s soul through music. Each concert represents a different facet of George Town, using the word CORE, with each letter naming a concert. Each concert is a journey of exploration and discovery.

Through a showcase of cultural and world music, this concert shines a spotlight on the city’s multicultural fusion and the confluence of cultures that give it its characteristic charm.

ARTISTS

Anak Borneo
Anak Borneo was founded in 2017 by Evan Lee, an independent songwriter and music producer who was previously a vocalist with Kitai Anak Borneo (KAB). Focusing on world music, alternative rock and progressive music with an infusion of traditional music, he tells stories related to his local culture and folklore, environmental issues and more.

Avartana
Founded in 2019, Avartana is an innovative Indian classical fusion band. Masters of their craft, they skillfully blend Hindustani and Carnatic classical music with a modern touch. Taking listeners on a spellbinding journey through vibrant ragas and intricate tala patterns, their melodies bridge the gap between the traditional and the contemporary.

Culture Shot
Imagine the melancholic sounds of an Er-hu, the strumming of a Lang Ting Tang (Hokkien Beggar Guitar), the melodic rhythm of a Rebana coupled with gongs, and the interlocking beats of a Gendang with a splash of Chinese cymbals. An amalgamation of ethnic sonorities, the 6 unique individuals that make up Culture Shot are a literal melting pot of cultures, creating playful music that serves audiences a taste of Penang.
