Ban Liau, derived from the Hokkien word meaning “net house”, is a quaint fishing village in Seberang Perai, Penang. Here, fishermen dry their nets in front of their houses every day after returning from sea. 

Formerly a coastal swamp, Ban Liau holds a history that spans 100 years. Transporting rocks, red clays and weeds from the nearby hill, the villagers themselves layered the swamp to create solid land for house building. This tranquil village is within Bukit Tambun, a suburb famous for its seafood and delectable Tambun biscuits. Low Khay Hooi & Wong Siew Jiuan (Art Generation Studio [Baiduren])

This dynamic duo obtained their Advanced Diploma in Printmaking from the Central Academy of Art, Malaysia. They are artists, printmakers, illustrators, and art teachers. While they are based in the Art Generation Studio, which they founded in 1999, they travel to different places to participate in community art projects as a significant part of their artistic expeditions. With their active involvement in arts education, they have participated in many national arts festivals, performed internationally, received recognition through various arts awards, and published multiple wildlife conservation picture books. Their commitment to both art and education allows them to inspire and mentor the next generation of creatives, making a lasting impact on the local and international art scenes.
