Description
A mirror stands before you. Instead of seeing yourself, you hear the sound of a heartbeat, your reflection distorted with every thump.
Preserving Memories is a sound sculpture installation by Kaito Sakuma, in which a liquid mirror will be placed at locations throughout George Town. The liquid mirror is an acoustic sculpture that functions as both a speaker and a reflective surface, distorting the scenery it mirrors in tandem with the sounds it emits.
Like how scents evoke memories, the mirror invites viewers to recall something “alive” within themselves—whether it is a personal memory, or a cherished time spent with loved ones. As viewers watch the stainless steel mirror surface jolt and dance along to sounds, Preserving Memories encourages everyone to take a moment to pause, reflect on the present moment, and take in the here and now.
A captivating interplay between sight and sound, this project is supported by Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur.
