Programme Details

“The South Paradise: Rong-ngeng Folk Dance” is a vibrant cultural showcase presented by Pakk Taii Design Week 2025 (PTDW2025) in collaboration with George Town Festival 2025 (GTF2025). Inspired by the PTDW2025 theme ‘มาใต้บายใจให้ถึงหวัน’ (“Come to the South, Let Joy Reach the Heavens”), this special performance celebrates the traditional Rong-ngeng folk dance—a rich expression of the shared Malay heritage found across Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, and Singapore.

Audiences will experience two captivating components: The Charm of Songkhla, which traces the spirit and history of Southern Thailand through dances like Zapin Singora and Joget Samila; and From Penang to Songkhla, a musical and cultural dialogue strengthening cross-border ties.
