What does it mean to return—after decades away—not just to a place, but to a part of yourself?
“Time.Places.People” marks Penang-born artist Joshua Foo’s quiet yet meaningful return to painting after 22 years—and to his hometown after nearly three decades abroad. This intimate exhibition traces a journey of returning to the brush and a gentle dialogue between the self, the city, and time.
Spanning over 30 years, the works chart a journey from a 1991 watercolour of a vanished Penang building to recent pieces like California Dream (2023), created after his creative reawakening. Portraits, including a tribute to mentor Harvey Chan, honour the people who shaped his path.
Through gentle brushwork and thoughtful composition, Joshua explores how time reshapes identity and place.
“Time.Places.People” is more than an exhibition—it’s a personal archive, a meditative return, and a heartfelt invitation to reflect on the ties that anchor us across time and space.
