A Return to Salt and Spirit
A creative act of remembrance, re-entering the rhythm of the Sea.
“Salt runs in our blood. So does memory. WARIS is a return – not just to the sea, but to the spirit that shaped us”
Presented by WindRiver Productions and School of the Arts, USM in collaboration with Pengkalan Nelayan Paramount.
WARIS
A Site-Specific Performance at Paramount Beach
Step into the living pulse of the ocean with “WARIS” — a powerful contemporary performance born of a two-week immersive lab, where dance and performance artists come together in deep collaboration. Staged along the shoreline between Lava Mansion and Ocean Green Seafood Restaurant, “WARIS” transforms Paramount Beach into a living, breathing stage where tides, memory, and movement converge.
More than a performance, “WARIS” is a collaboratorium — a space of communion between artists, place, and spirit. Rooted in the rhythms of the sea and the ancestral wisdom of the last living waris (heirs), this work becomes a vessel for stories shaped by salt, labour, and ritual.
Through experiential acts that respond to the living presence of the beach, “WARIS” invites audiences into a sacred re-entry. Movement becomes memory; performance becomes ritual. Join us in this collective act of remembrance — a dance with sea, land, and legacy.
“WARIS” is presented by WindRiver Productions and the School of the Arts, USM, in collaboration with Pengkalan Nelayan Paramount.
